We are very proud to be featuring in our boutique English-born ecoluxe beauty brand Bodhi & Birch. From aromatic shower and bath gels to an expertly formulated skincare line, Bodhi & Birch is a fabulous invitation to wellbeing and self care.
Elijah Choo, the founder and mind behind Bodhi & Birch has kindly accepted to answer our questions. We’re thrilled to discover a bit more about this incredible brand!
What inspired you to create Bodhi & Birch?
Bodhi & Birch is inspired by my fascination with botanical ingredients and traditional remedies from around the world. As a child, I would often play mad scientist and create my own concoctions using flowers, fruit and vegetables, and anything else I could find in the kitchen or bathroom.
However it wasn’t until we moved into Bittell Farm that Bodhi & Birch was born. Bittell Farm is a 16th century farm house that required extensive restoration. Due to the work I found myself washing more often and eventually my skin became severely dry. It turns out SLS (Sodium Laureth Sulphate) was the cause, as it compromises the skin’s defense layers, causing it to weaken. I switched to natural skincare but found most tend to lack an aromatic sensory journey. Thus I began to create Bodhi & Birch from my kitchen table.
Your Bath & Shower Therapy line smells absolutely amazing and feels so luxurious. What is the secret behind such sumptuous scents?
Thank you for your kind words. I love an evocative sensory journey. Thus, when creating blends, I set out to weave a story, an aromatic adventure, that transports the senses away from the ordinary and across boundaries. Each Bodhi & Birch product is born from an emotion, a scent, a flower, a memory. I look into the history of skincare and beauty to source our active ingredients. These are often legendary botanicals that have been used by humans for hundreds of years, ingredients that are of the utmost quality so they deliver on scent and luxury.
What sets your brand apart from others in the natural beauty market?
Every natural beauty brand and their founders have a story to tell. With Bodhi & Birch it is a story of discovery and escapism. I am the catalyst for every Bodhi & Birch creation; from product formulation to scent inspiration, from its name creation to design development. It is my story, and as such, it is unique. Bodhi & Birch is more than skincare; they are mood-enhancing products that help spread positivity and peak your curiosity with their scent or texture.
Over the years, Bodhi & Birch has established a reputation for high performance natural skincare with signature aromatherapeutic scents, formulated without compromise on quality of ingredients, and all this with minimal impact on the environment.
If you had one beauty tip to share with us, what would it be?
Choose wisely. Choose products that make you positively happy.
Beauty and skincare goes beyond skin deep. As we continue to speed towards the future, we lose more time to switch off and indulge in moments of solace and adventure, of discovery and retreat. Each Bodhi & Birch product takes you on a journey of indulgent escapism, from its exotic ingredients to the therapeutic effects on the senses. Hopefully, through all that, even in some small little way, it makes each person a little happier. And happy people are beautiful people.
What’s coming next for Bodhi & Birch?
There is a range of limited edition bath and shower oils making their debut as a three piece collection this Autumn.
Rosa Verde is a renewing blend of Rose, Lime, Geranium and Frankincense, while Jasmin de Lune is a deeply relaxing potion of Jasmine, High-Altitude Lavender and Vetiver. And finally, La Botanica is a reviving detox fusion of Lemon, Eucalyptus, Rosemary and Juniper Berry.
I’ve also been working on a new skincare range. This is still under wraps and tentatively scheduled for launch in Spring/Summer 2018.
